About Prairie Strides

Prairie Strides Inc. has been making a profound difference in the lives of children with disabilities since 1977 through our adaptive horseback riding program. This innovative program is specifically designed for kids aged 5 to 15 who face a range of challenges, including cerebral palsy, visual impairments, autism, and other developmental disabilities. By harnessing the unique bond between humans and horses, our program provides participants with opportunities for connection, improved balance, physical enhancement, and significant social and emotional growth.

Each session is carefully designed and led by a team of highly trained instructors who possess both the expertise and the empathy required to support these remarkable children. Additionally, our program is reinforced by the dedication of numerous volunteers, whose unwavering commitment ensures that each child receives the individualized attention and support they need.

Our sessions run twice yearly, with each 10-week series held in the spring and fall at West Wind Stables, offering a blend of therapeutic benefits and sheer enjoyment that resonates with the participants and their families.

The impact of our program extends beyond the riding sessions. Parents and caregivers consistently report significant improvements in their children's confidence, social skills, and physical abilities. The ripple effect of these changes often touches their broader family dynamics and school experiences, underscoring the transformative power of our work.

At Prairie Strides, we believe that every child deserves the chance to shine and that disabilities should never limit one's potential. Our adaptive horseback riding program is more than just a therapeutic activity; it's a gateway to a world where children with disabilities can explore, grow, and realize their full potential. Through the unwavering support of our community, we continue to make strides, one ride at a time, towards a more inclusive and compassionate world.

“Over the past four years, Ethan has thrived in the program, eagerly returning to the stables each week. The dedicated volunteers have not only taught him valuable skills but also provided a nurturing environment for his emotional growth.
